Today

The Today page: a quarterly reflection to finish, daily metrics to log, a savings transfer and a family errand due today, and the focus for this quarter

Your dashboard, your rules

What goes on it, how you read it and when you change it are all up to you.

01 · Your metrics

You decide what's on it

There is no wellness score. Each metric is daily, weekly or monthly with its own target, grouped under your dimensions, such as health, family, work, money and learning.

An example setup on Manage metrics: seven metrics grouped by dimension. Health has Meditate, 1 per day, and Exercise, 3 per week; Family has Family dinner, 4 per week; Work has Out by 6pm, 4 per week; Money has Save 15%, 15% per month; Learning has Read 20 minutes, 1 per day, and Write, 2 per week.

02 · Trends over streaks

See the months, not the days

Quarterly and yearly Trends reports, on Premium, compare each metric with the period before: what improved, what held and what slipped. A bad week doesn't erase your progress.

A quarterly Trends report against the previous quarter: sleep improving, family dinner on track, workout declining, savings flat

03 · In your control

Change it as your life changes

Pause a metric, adjust a target, skip a day, archive what no longer fits, and switch off modules you don't use, such as Tasks. Your history stays intact.

The daily Log: meditation skipped today, deep work open on a target lowered from 3h to 2h, and one paused metric folded away at the bottom

How you build it

Build yours in four steps

A useful dashboard starts small. Most of the work is deciding what matters, not setting it up.

  1. Pick your dimensions

Name the areas of life you care about, such as health, family, work, money and learning.

  2. Add three metrics

Give each one a target you would hit in an ordinary week: seven hours of sleep, a workout a week, dinner with your family.

  3. Each day

Log in seconds on the daily Log. On Premium, Withings sync fills in what it can.

  4. Each quarter

Read what improved and what slipped, then adjust your targets for the season ahead.

Questions about personal dashboards

What is a personal dashboard?

One screen that shows how the parts of your life you care about are going. In Good Work that is a few metrics of your own, grouped into your dimensions, with what to log today and how each one is moving over the quarter.

What can I put on my dashboard?

Anything you can count or tick off: hours slept, workouts, dinners with your family, pages read, money saved. Each metric is daily, weekly or monthly, with a target you choose.

Do I have to log every day?

No. Log what you can, skip a day when you need to, or pause a metric for a season. Progress is measured against your targets over weeks and months, so a missed day is just a missed day.

Can it fill in data automatically?

On Premium, Withings sync fills in metrics such as weight and sleep when you sync. Everything else you log by hand, which takes a few seconds a day.

How is it different from a habit tracker?

A habit tracker counts days in a row. Good Work tracks habits too, but next to numbers such as hours slept or money saved, across several areas of life, and it shows how often you hit each target rather than a streak.

Is it free?

Yes. The free plan includes unlimited metrics, the daily Log, daily, weekly and monthly progress, skipping, pausing and adjusting targets, and tasks. Premium adds quarterly and yearly Trends reports, Withings sync and Premium for up to 5 family members, and starts with a 30-day free trial.
